11 Dachshund Breeders in Washington State (WA) – Local Recommendations for Dachshund Lovers

[ad_1]

If you are looking for a dachshund breeder in the state of WA, you have come to the right place.

I am a local dachshund lover who runs a 2,000 member dachshund club – the Adventurewiener Club – and many of our members have purchased dachshund puppies from breeders in Washington State.

A few breeders are actually members of the club.

This means that I have personally met some of the state’s Dachshund breeders and listened to the first-hand experiences of many people who have purchased a Dachshund puppy in Washington State.

Why I made this list

So far I have refrained from publishing a list of state breeders.

Mainly for two reasons:

  1. I try to stay away from controversial topics on my blog.

Buying a dachshund puppy or rescuing a dachshund is a very tricky subject.

Many people are of one opinion over the other, but not both.

My personal belief, in a nutshell, is that either choice is correct and that choice is up to the person.

2. I don’t want to overwhelm dachshund breeders in Washington

I don’t want to brag but a lot of people read my blog and trust my advice.

By listing people selling Dahchsund puppies in Washington, I have the potential to funnel a ton of inquiries to those breeders.

After the pandemic, the demand for puppies has increased, so they are probably already overwhelmed with requests. In many cases, their waiting lists are already a year long.

That being said, I found myself answering the question over and over again about dachshund breeders near Seattle.

That means I spend a lot of time answering the same question over and over again and already spreading the word about these breeders.

So here is my list of recommendations for Dachshund breeders in Washington State.

Please consider rescue first

As I said, my personal belief is that the choice of salvage versus buying a Dahchsund is personal.

However, I believe it should be an informed choice.

The quick pros and cons of a rescue versus buying a puppy from a breeder are:

Professional rescue:

  • You don’t have to go through the crazy puppy stage
  • You get a pretty good idea of a dachshund’s personality because it’s more established
  • Adoption fees are almost always lower than the fees for a new puppy.
  • You rescue a dachshund that has no home to make room for another that needs help

Pro breeder:

  • You can have some guarantee of health through the puppy’s family lineage and health testing
  • You can mold, shape and train your puppy from an early age
  • While a voucher will ask you questions about your living situation and lifestyle, the requirements are not as stringent as with most rescues.

My dachshund Gretel is a recue and Summit was purchased from a breeder so no judgment here.

But if you want to consider a rescue, here are some options for rescuing dachshunds in Washington state.

How much should you expect to pay for a dachshund puppy?

If you buy a puppy from a quality breeder, expect to pay an average of $1,000 to $3,000 for a quality puppy.

I have never purchased a show quality Dahchsund, but I have some past experience with show cat breeders.

I would expect a show quality dachshund, or even pet quality from a show breeder, to cost more. I’m guessing these puppies will cost $2,000 and up.

Real quality dachshunds can cost up to $10,000 and can come with a co-ownership agreement, which means you and the breeder both own the dog.

Avoid a Dachshund Puppy Scam

I plan to write a longer article on this topic but, until I do, watch out for these puppy scam red flags:

  • A website with lots of puppies availableIf you find a puppy online
  • A puppy that is ready to be picked up or shipped now
  • A dachshund puppy that costs $650 or $750 (apparently the most popular price in the dachshund puppy scam).
  • A website with dozens of puppies that are all the same age (a litter is usually 5-6 puppies max)
  • A site full of flashy and popular colors
  • The person pressures you for the deposit or shipping costs

It’s always a good idea to make a Google Reverse Image Search for the puppy you are interested in if you are unsure whether the breeder is trustworthy.

So many scammers use pictures of puppies from Instagram, or random places online, to try to get you to send money.

You can rest assured that while the health and quality of each Dachshund may vary, the breeders listed below are not scams.

Recommended Dachshund Breeders in Washington

Mine is not a list of all dachshund breeders in Washington State.

I don’t like to speak ill of breeders or people I don’t have much experience with.

The ones on this list are breeders that I know personally, have heard only good things about or heard very little bad things about.

I’ll add to this list as needed, but it’s best to assume that if you don’t see a breeder on this list, they should be approached with caution.

You can always contact me to ask about a specific breeder if they are not on this list.
