Lucky on the right, was found abandoned at a campsite when my husband was on duty about 7 years ago, the vet thinks he was about 5-6 weeks old and starving. My husband took him home to take care of him until we “find” his family (ha). I never found them and we fell in love with him. We say we’re “lucky” we found it. Ciri is our young pup on the left, she is named after Ciri from The Witcher who is a powerful and mean girl in the show. I should have called her Mischief

5 year GSD. It’s called AWOL. Every time we took him off his leash, he was gone! I’m also a veteran and all of my fur kids have military names. He’s my boy and the best puppy I’ve ever had.

A colleague’s dog is called Nunyet – when they first got him, they took him to the vet. The vet asked his name and they said “none yet”…so the vet wrote Nunyet…and it stuck LOL

I called my daughter Phoenix. My previous shepherd had died and I was heartbroken, I named her that because it means ‘rising from the ashes….’. She is a bit of my 3 daughters who left us…sweet, smart and loyal like Yazmine. But also protective (and similar coloring) like our Chloe, and very nervous and playful (with some separation anxiety) like my husky, Kiesha!

“Kane” came to save me and the name didn’t suit him and he didn’t respond positively to it, but when I tried “Scruff” his cock went crazy! And he was dancing, and jumping, and happy and he would never stay freshly groomed, he had to mess up his sleek fur to make Scruff look perfect for him. He’s in dog heaven now, stealing custard from hoomans ♡

We named our new rescue “Easy You Evangeline”. “Easy” because she behaved so well, “You” because I always meant: “I named the dog after YOU! And “Evangeline” because my wife is from Louisiana.

My daughter Breeze! I needed a new puppy to train to become a guide, and I was wondering whether or not it was a ‘Breeze’ to train! She was a challenge for sure, but she’s a great working dog now! The tasks she can do are very impressive!

Shadow, when we went to see a litter of GS we looked at them all but this little black pup came out of the corner of a shadow in the room and I fell in love with him right away. I just said that one of them was called Shadow, without discussing it with the family. He lives by his name, always following me everywhere. This is my big baby who is almost 7 years old.

Balu. He is a blue GSD and was the same gray color as Baloo the Bear when he was a puppy. Jungle Book was my daughter’s favorite movie when she was little. I loved how fun and playful and simple Baloo was, but he was also very loyal to Mowgli. That’s all I wanted in this dog. Three years later, and his name couldn’t be more appropriate.

Our daughter was called Ripley. When she was a puppy, she didn’t like my twins wandering too far apart in the garden. She was grabbing their shirttails and pulling them close together…Ripping their shirts off in the process…we missed her every day as we just lost her in February.

Django and Broomhilda. My husband loved the movie Django. When we rescued Hilda, she was around six months old and her name was ‘Negra’, which we weren’t interested in. We remembered that Broomhilda was Django’s wife in the movie. I called her that and she answered. So it worked perfectly. We call her Hilda for short.
