I’ve had about 13 Basset Hounds and learned that they don’t take high protein foods well. Just a well-balanced diet. My last Basset with stomach issues did the best on Yellow Bag Pedigree, but not with extra protein. Every dog โโis different The key is to find out if possible why he is sensitive to food. Best wishes to your dog.

I fed Bassett Costco Salmon and Sweet Potato Kibbles for years. My Yorkie preferred it over her Nutrish Salmon and Sweet Potato or Royal Canin kibbles, so I let her continue eating hers. She is now 11 years old and in great shape.

Beat an egg, 55 seconds in the microwave, let cool 2 minutes and serve. My 14 year old dog, Abby, has one every morning and people think she’s 3! (She also eats wet dog food and kibble, but she really thrived on the daily egg!)

Mix 1 cup boiled, diced, boneless, skinless chicken breast with 1.5 cups cooked white rice and 1.5 cups Royal Canin Gastrointestinal low fat food and about 3/4 cup cooked mixed vegetables steamed. Do not use sodium or spices. Cook the rice in the water left over from boiling the chicken breasts. Our 12 year old basset hound developed pancreatitis and this diet is recommended by our veterinarian. (The Royal Canin is only available by prescription.) He greedily eats all that mix every day and feels great now.

My Shirlee had a very delicate constitution. I had tried every vet recommended or “science based” food and they either didn’t help or Miss Prissy didn’t want to eat it. One night out of desperation I threw her a chewy Ken L Ration burger and she not only loved it but no more tummy issues. I was worried it was nutritious enough though, and more than one vet said it was fine. She thrived for another 14 years, so I guess so.
