A cat with a “pirate” smile emerged from its shell and began to shine when it no longer needed to hide.

Jin who patronize City dogs and save the city kitties (in Washington, DC), was contacted about a cat with a damaged eye. He was brought to a local shelter and was in dire need of rescue.

“City Kitties immediately jumped into action and agreed to take him. I went to get him and then went straight to the emergency vet, where they removed the torn cornea,” Gene Shared with Love Meow.

Although he left her with one eye, the prospect of the cat being there was brighter. He slowly began to learn how to adapt to inner life.

The kitten called Ono was only six weeks old and only weighed 1.5 pounds when Jane brought him home. He was nervous and scared and needed a lot of rest as he was recovering from the surgery.

Jane’s husband, Ian, came over to offer some encouragement and a pet. He spent a great deal of time with his feline companion, reassuring him that he was safe.

Jin told Love Meow, “Ono quickly adapted to being a ‘pirate,’ but it took him a few weeks to warm up to humans. I used to carry him in my sweatshirt so he got used to being around people.”

“He was hiding in the strangest of places, which is funny to look at now, because now he’s running this family.”

Ono began to appreciate the luxury of inner life and pamper him every day. It was a pink tickled for a constant source of food, a comfy bed to sleep in, and adoptive parents’ eagerness to rub his belly.

Once he was ready to meet the resident cats, he was initially unsure of all the ups and downs as he ventured into uninhabited areas. Jane helped him acclimatize to the open spaces of the house by driving him.

After a few minutes of wandering from room to room, Ono was brave enough to stick his head out, check on the other cats and watch their antics from his secure bag.

Hagrid, one of the resident cats, took the kitten under his wing. He decides to show him the ropes, teach him courage, and impart to him important feline wisdom with which he can live.

Two weeks later, Ono needed a second surgery due to some eye problems from the incision site. The surgeon wanted to make sure everything was taken out, leaving no chance for infection.

“This resulted in a adorable little ‘sarcasm’ as the skin was pulled tight and his upper lip lifted up. The ‘sarcasm’ should lessen over time as the skin is stretched, but for now, it makes Uno a much cooler and more damaging looking.”

During his recovery, Hagrid and Bucky, a resident cat, invite Ono to join their cuddle pool.

“He would walk right around the place and come down between them, a cone and all. They gave him a few caresses and then everyone snuggled in for a nice long nap.”

Ono has recovered beautifully and is thriving in his home. He has no lingering issues with his eye, and his personality shines through. Has asthma whose inhaler is well controlled. He is excellent at taking medication and sprinkles plenty of it wherever he pleases.

Nothing seems to slow him down as he wanders around the house and attacks him like a cannonball.

Jin added, “Ono gets along well with his brother Hagrid and has recently become a great friend to a new pair of kittens. He is energetic, playful, goofy and absolutely adorable.”

“Ono has been with us for nearly five months now, and it is hard to overstate how much we love him. He has such a cute, quirky, and incredibly endearing personality. My heart melts every time I see his silly and indescribably cute little pirate sarcasm.”

The little guy is brave, silly, sweet and just wants to be in the middle of it all. “Ono may be a big tough pirate, but he’s also a cute little kid. Someone would be very lucky to adopt him.”
