A kitten was found running around in a garage. He decided to slip into a woman’s neck and start trusting.

It was a beautiful day in the fall of last year when Marijana had a surprise encounter with a pint-sized kitten. She was at her parents’ house, lazing outside on the porch, when she suddenly heard what sounded like a cat.

“I figured it was coming from the garage, so I went to the entrance and saw this little ball of white fur running around and hiding,” Marijana shared with Love Meow. “I kept trying to grab him, and he kept hiding behind different things in the garage.”

The kitten was in a state of panic and refused to let go, but each time Marijana meowed at him, he was attracted by the sound. “I found a YouTube video of cats meowing, and I just played it on loop and hid outside the door.”

Slowly but surely, the kitten emerged from its hiding place and crept up to the entrance. When the little guy was picked up, he struggled, delivering a few scratches to his rescuer, before realizing he was safe.

After wolfing down food from the kitchen, the kitten’s behavior quickly reversed. “I won his trust through pate and he crawled on top of me. I had never met a more affectionate cat.”

The kitten needed a foster home, so with the help of her friend, Alison, they got in touch with Erica Ciccaronea journalist, who volunteered to Nashville Cat Rescue at the time.

As soon as the kitten was placed in a carrier, Erica was greeted with loud cries from the little furball. She affectionately named him Moon Pie. “Weighing just under a pound and covered in fleas, her round face reminded me of the moon,” Erica told Love Meow.

“My priority was to help him gain weight. I always quarantine new adopters for two weeks before they can mingle with other pets in the house. Moon Pie had an upper respiratory infection, so his period of solitude in my room was longer than I anticipated.”

As Moon Pie acclimated to indoor life, her personality was in full swing. He demanded constant attention from his people and would not take no for an answer. Personal space has never been part of his vocabulary, and his love language nestles against his human’s neck.

“He quickly turned out to be a little maniac. If I put him in the parc fermé, he would scream. If I left the room, he would also scream. He would run around day and night and attack my face while I slept. It was all forgiven every time he crawled up my chest and slid into my shoulder.”

The little rascal desperately wanted a friend to keep him company. Once he was medically clear, Erica introduced him to her resident cat Jasper, whose friendship with Moon Pie tempered his unbridled energy.

“Moon Pie loves to tackle and wasn’t deterred by Jasper’s attempts to shake him off.

Jasper passed on feline manners to his little protege and showed him the ropes around the house. He endured Moon Pie’s exuberant outbursts and showered him with licks and hugs.

“When he finally got Jasper tired, he’d have a blast dancing and tumbling around the room with a crumpled ball, or jumping on the floppy fish he loved and feared.”

After a full day of play, the kitten would wrap its arms around a friend or wrap itself around Erica’s neck and fall asleep. When the day came to find a forever home for the little troublemaker, a wonderful family was eager to meet him.

Heather, who had followed Moon Pie’s fostering journey from the start, fell head over heels in love with him.

“When Heather and John picked up Moon Pie, he crawled into their carrier and laid down. He was ready for his new life in the hills of Tennessee.”

The palm-sized kitten has turned into a beautiful young cat. “Moon Pie loves swimming in the sun on our porch, bouncing on her (feline) big brother Charlie, hiding under rugs and blankets and playing fetch,” Heather shared.

“His white fur shines as bright as the moon, and he makes us laugh every day. We are so happy to have His Pie-ness as part of our family.”

“I’m determined to trap Moon Pie’s feral mother and have her neutered so she doesn’t have to have any more babies,” Erica added. “Saving a little kitten takes a lot of collaboration, and Moon Pie brought us all together.”
